The Discover 100M
is the latest entrant under the Discover portfolio and is a toned down
version of the sportier 100T priced at Rs 46,000 (ex-showroom Delhi)
Bajaj Auto, which had earlier announced that it would be launching six new products under the Discover brand name kept its word as it unveiled the Discover 100M. Visually the bike looks similar to the Discover 100T but according to Bajaj it has been based on a completely new platform featuring a shorter wheelbase of 1255mm. Powering the 100M is a 102cc, four-stroke, 4-valve, DTS-i engine pumping out 9.3PS @ 8,000rpm and 9.02Nm@ 6,000rpm and mated to a 4-speed transmission unlike its elder siblings 5-speed one. Though the engine is similar to the 100T, the boffins have reduced the torque by 0.5Nm while peak torque is achieved at 500rpm lesser than its elder sibling. This according to the company has been done to make the bike more rideable in heavy traffic conditions while commuting. Bajaj claims a top speed of 95km/h and overall fuel efficiency of 85kmpl.
Speaking at the launch, K.Srinivas, President (Motorcycle Business) said, “The Discover series of bikes have redefined the “Mileage Bike” segment. In this segment the competition offer only plain jane very basic bikes as the predominant consideration of the customer is Mileage. Thanks to our patented twin-spark, 4 –Valve engines we are able to “Power Up” the mileage bikes – the Discover 100M gives 9.3 PS power and yet delivers 84 km to the litre.”
The Discover 100M gets endowed with features like electric start and spider web alloys as standard, gas filled Nitrox suspension, low maintenance battery, DC headlight and aluminium side sets. Braking prowess on the 100M is taken care of by a 200mm petal type disc brake (optional), making it the only bike in the 100cc segment to feature them as an option and is a welcome move by Bajaj. The Discover 100M has been priced at Rs 46,000 for drum-brake version and Rs 49,000 for the disc variant, both prices are ex-showroom Delhi. It would be available in the following five shades of Flame Red, Brilliant Blue, Midnight Black (Red decals), Midnight Black (Blue decals) and Midnight Black (Olive Decals).
